This thread is basically just made to catalogue a lot of Japanese versions of Gex over the years. I have been looking into how Japan looked at Gex as a franchise.  I came across a lot of things which I would like to share, including the Japanese pick ups I got recently.  The Japanese Sega Saturn version with the infamous gex picture came with an manual which was really interesting because it poster.

It's probably one of the few different interpretations of the franchise, and interesting types of marketing. Gex always was pretty weird in Japan, seeing how it's intro is only thing which is recorded in Japanese, while the voice lines are still in English.

Also, I uncovered one of the recent promotional commercials for the game, which is pretty unknown to the general public, it's very interesting how much they sort pushed the series, even appearing in Saturn Fan gaming magazine. That I find really cool, and I hope to share more of these findings, if I find anything for Spin Tail (Japanese version of Gex: Enter the Gecko)

Interesting.. however even if it was in Japanese would they have gotten any of the pop culture references?  Random thought.

Thank you for sharing all of this with us :) .

They made Gex look super kawai lol.  It's interesting how different he looks on the box art. They did the same for Spyro in his Japanese release. I wonder why Japan never got the sequels though.

Technically, it did get a sequel in the presence of Spin Tail. He got a different name, Reno and there was a few changes made along the way.  You can check out more on Gexpedia. In the following article including it's manual  :)

Gex had a lot of interesting promotion in Japan. Japan has a tendency of changing things drastically to appeal their audiences.

Well dang I never knew about Spin Tail! Interesting that Bandai published the game in Japan too!

One of /r/Gex members, Dylus and ShadowJinjoYu found some preview ads for the 3DO and PS1 versions a while ago. While it doesn't seem like much, it has some tidbits which I don't even think appeared in the US/EU advertisements for the game.
