Let's reflect on the impact of the Gex series on the gaming industry. Did it bring anything unique to the platformer genre, and how has its legacy influenced later games?

Although I'm not sure about it's impact on the platformer genre, I feel its infusion of humor showcased the potential for games to entertain through not only gameplay but comedy as well which adds more life to storytelling. This characteristic feature of the game has inspired the games that came after its release.

Honestly, one unique thing I can think of is how you go back and forth through the maps. You even have portals in some. Then you also have areas where you stick on the wall and then the background . I am sure a few other games had this, but not many.

Then you have the humor and pop culture references.. I can't think of any games accept Waynes World for SNES that made them.. if I recall correctly.

However after Gex quite a few games did make current pop culture references.

One thing I loved about Gex is the fact that he wasn't a carbon copy of Sonic. There were many animal mascot platformers that came out in the 90's that tried to imitate Sonic and they failed completely. Gex was it's own thing, and I think it catered more to the older crowd than Sonic and Mario. The pop culture quotes really made Gex stand out. During a time where the internet was in it's infancy, it was cool to see this character quote many different shows and movies in a way it's like he was a talking meme long before the term was even coined.

Agreed.  You could argue Gex actually had more personality than most mascots of the time. Crash didn't talk to much..  Mario was a plumber who kept saving Peach...

Meanwhile Gex was a relatable as a kid in many ways. He was a lazy TV watching, pop culture loving, munchies having gecko XD.
